[edit]I think some word about Fabrizio De André are due, the most prominent cantautore of his era... 93.148.52.88 (talk) 06:55, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- I agree 100%. JacktheBrown (talk) 04:32, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Length
[edit]At over 23k words of readable prose, this article is too long to read comfortably. It would be beneficial to condense and/or migrate content to subarticles to make this one more readable. Nikkimaria (talk) 16:35, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- In my opinion the article is not too long. The topic is really very complex and multifaceted, and a detailed article is needed to have a complete treatment. --LukeWiller (talk) 17:20, 28 June 2023 (UTC).
- I appreciate that that might be your opinion, but that doesn't outweigh WP:TOOBIG. Complex and multifaceted topics are meant to be – and in many cases are – covered by summary style articles with more detailed child articles expanding on subtopics. Nikkimaria (talk) 17:24, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- I wonder if it would be helpful if we establish a word count goal for getting this page under control.
- At present it is, IMHO, too long by half and also reads more like a compendium than an actual synthesis. If we want a strong, synthetic "Culture of Italy" article, it must do something the child articles don’t. Trimming the word count only gets us part of the way there.
- In any event, the Very long template should not be removed without discussion here.

- Agreed. The current length of >17,000 words is still excessive given that most sections should be concisely summarizing their "main article" content. Vineviz (talk) 01:24, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Vineviz: I propose splitting the final part of the Music sub-section, and the Media section. JacktheBrown (talk) 19:59, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Split to where? These should already be summaries of their subarticles. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:28, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- I'm open to hearing more, but I'm skeptical that this helps us. This article is already so long that I wonder how splitting an existing section would make it more readable. Vineviz (talk) 00:55, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

Proposed Revision to "Music" Section
[edit]@JacktheBrown, @Nikkimaria — if you have a moment, I’d appreciate your thoughts on this proposed revision to the Music section.
I’d like to propose a lightly condensed and revised version of the `===Music===` section of this article. The goal is to:
- Reduce word count by ~30% to improve clarity and readability
- Provide more encyclopedic synthesis, focusing on music’s cultural role rather than duplicating detailed genre coverage
- Avoid redundancy with the expansive and well-sourced Music of Italy article
- Retain all key figures, sourced material, and citations
This revision:
- Preserves major milestones (e.g., invention of the piano/violin, Verdi’s connection to national identity, Sanremo Festival)
- Emphasizes music’s relationship to Italian society and regional diversity
- Trims long composer/performance lists and subgenre details that are now covered in more depth in the main article

I’d welcome any comments, objections, or suggested improvements before implementing. Thanks in advance!

- Thanks for doing this. I'd suggest avoiding flowery language (eg "remains vibrant") and finding a better source than AllMusic for the Moroder claim. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:05, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- good tips. I made some additional edits. Vineviz (talk) 02:32, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
